Socialistisk Påskeseminar: The anatomy of Trumpite neo-fascism

{{brizy_dc_image_alt entityId=
How has Donald Trump been able, barely one year into his second term as president of the US, been able to drive his country so far to the right, carry out so much repression of immigrants, trans people and other oppressed people, and launch one international crisis after another?

Torsdag d. 2. april kl. 14:00 – 16:00

Workshop by Peter Drucker, queer marxist activist and member of the Dutch section of the Fourth International.

In this workshop Peter Drucker explains the background and causes of Trumpism, starting with the 2008 international financial crisis, shifts in global capitalism that followed, and the Brexit referendum and Trump’s first election as president in 2016.

In his first term from 2017 to 2021 Trump was still constrained by a sort of coalition with more traditional right-wing Republicans, but since early 2025 he has been building a full-fledged neofascist regime, similar to neofascist regimes in Hungary, Turkey, Argentina and India.

The regime is based not only on economic nationalism but also on deep-seated racism, gender and sexual reaction, and a mix of antisemitism and extreme Zionism. The workshop will conclude with a discussion of the different resistance movements and the united front tactics needed to defeat neofascism.

Peter Drucker, originally from and politically active in the US, has been living in the Netherlands for 33 years, where he lectures at the International Institute for Research and Education in Amsterdam and is a member of the Dutch section of the Fourth International. He is the author of Warped: Gay Normality and Queer Anti-Capitalism.
